Pandora Streaming Over to Android

20 Jun
2009

Good news music lovers, Pandora have recently let slip that their next port over to mobile is going to be focused on the Android platform. Finally, one of the world’s best music streaming and discovery solutions, will live inside your phone.

For the uninitiated, Pandora.com is an intelligent music streaming service, type in the name of an artist or song that you like, and it will bring it up for your listening pleasure and afterwards, suggest something similar. You’re then able to mark the suggestions you love, and the ones you hate, allowing Pandora to get a pretty accurate feel for what it is you like to listen to, and what it should suggest next.

Inside the announcement article on Pandora’s own blog for their Palm Pre app, Tom Conrad included this teasing little line at the bottom
“Yes Android users that means we’ve heard you loud and clear – you’re next”
paving the way for much excitement. Then, more recently in Tom’s personal blog he explains the reasons why it has taken so long for Pandora to even reach Android, begs forgiveness, and further confirms that one fantastic teasing line.

One question remains though, will Pandora for Android be available for the international audience? Some years ago, Pandora was forced to shut its doors to all comers from outside the US, due to licensing constraints. Since then, many former Pandora listeners from around the world have had to go without.

While this is great news for the US App Market, for the rest of us, it may be a case of hoping for the best, while preparing for the worst.
