Good news fellow Australians, it looks like there is still some real competition going on in the mobile phone market these days. Vodafone have recently announced that they’ll be pushing out the HTCÂ Magic (G2) on a $69 capped plan – a whole $30 cheaper than the 3 mobile offering.
It comes with the usual 24 month ball and chain of course, and includes $400 for calls and SMS, with a tasty 1GB of data usage thrown in there. Not all that bad by Aussie market standards, really.
Of course, the interesting thing is that this little stab at competitive pricing comes in the wake of the announcement that Vodafone and 3 have a proposed merger in the works. This announcement led to a general fear that retail prices would increase. So maybe this is an indication that not all is lost on the retail front, or maybe it’s just a big corporate trick, we’ll just have to wait and see.
