Android Flash in 2009?

6 Jun
2009

Well now, an exciting piece of news has recently made it’s way out of Adobe. They’re hoping to have a working Flash trial on Android phones (and others) by the end of 2009. Sounds like a web-browsing dream come true.

So the bottom line goes something like this, Adobe came to terms with the fact that the mobile web/smartphone market is really where “it’s” at these days – whatever “it” is. They’re attempting to re-create their entire platform so that any Flash content you view on a site will reveal itself to you, on your phone, without any need for modification. Presumably this means that Flash will become scalable to some extent, based on the device that’s viewing it.

Apparently this newly imagined Flash is currently being developed for the Android OS, Nokia devices, Palm devices – but not the iPhone. There seems to be some trouble centred around the fact that Apple needs to sign off on some kind of agreement about the whole thing. Silly, silly Apple.
Adobe spokesperson and chief technology officer, Kevin Lynch, had this to say about the whole thing…
“Smart phones are where the game is now, our chips are on the table. We’ve made our bets.”
Here’s hoping they play the game exceptionally well.
